“So don’t forget (Y/N)-Chan, when Sonia-San comes over you-”.  You interrupted your friend hastily; if you didn’t you’d have to listen to him reiterate his plan to win the glorious princess, Sonia Nevermind, over.  “I know Kazuichi-Kun.  When she gets here make sure she heads to the restaurant and no one else, but her, goes in.”  You couldn’t have rolled your eyes farther back into your head.  “I knew I could count on you (Y/N)-Chan.”  Kazuichi flashed a love-struck smile and winked, “You’re the best!”  He then neighborly pat on the head and scurried up wooden beach stairs to the restaurant cheering gleefully and squealing like a love-sick little school girl.

You may be pondering as to how you got sucked into Kazuichi’s love confession to Sonia; and that was because of the simple fact that you didn’t know how to say no, to anyone.  Ever since you were small you had been obsessed with pleasing others and doing whatever they bid; many a time, this had gotten you into deep trouble.  You were never sure as to why you did so, you just like making people smile, and Kazuichi was no exception.  When he asked you to help carry out his scheme you couldn’t say no; your common sense was no watch for his pleading pathetic look in his eyes.

“You’re the best!”  You mocked Kazuichi’s voice, making him sound twice as annoying as he really was, as soon as he was gone, “I love you Sonia-San; I’m going to inconvenience everyone because I love you even though you couldn’t care less if I didn’t exist.”  You snarled under your breath and sighed irritated at your own flaw of being a yes-man.  Yet, in a way, you pitied Kazuichi; he tried so hard to get Sonia’s attention, for what?  All she ever said to him was unkind words and rude requests.  So, why did he worship her?  You hadn’t the faintest idea why his admiration ran so deep.  “I bet it’s cause she’s pretty and blonde,” you scoffed aloud, crossing your arms in a frustrated manor.

It’s true, Sonia was pretty, but not drop dead gorgeous.  Sure, she was more alluring and refined than you; sure, you did feel jealous at times of the staggering amount of attention she got from the others (especially Kazuichi), but that didn’t make you despise her.  Not a bit.  Perhaps a better word would be irked.  Yes, she irked you.  “She has no talent; since when is being a princess a talent?”  You raised your objection to yourself, you must have looked so strange talking to yourself.  You had to force yourself to stop from sounding like Komeda.  A shiver went down your spin; Kazuichi would never like you if you acted like Komeda.  Whatever, you made a convulsion movement to shake the thought out of your mind.

Why did you care so much about getting Kazuichi’s attention though, it wasn’t like you had some sort of infatuation with him; no, it was that you felt awful for him, and that was all.  Nothing more, nothing less.  You kept repeating those words over and over in your head; but then images of Kazuichi filled your feeble little mind causing your cheeks to turn bright pink.  Well, at least that’s what Hajime told you as he stopped by.

“Hey, (Y/N)-San?  Are you alright?  You’ve been standing her for the last twenty minutes and your cheeks’ are pink.”  You were in such a daze thinking about Kazuichi, you didn’t notice Hajime standing directly in front of you.  “Oh, Hajime-San,” you took a few steps back due to the sudden disturbance in your trance.  Hajime looked you over one more time, “Is this Kazuichi-Kun’s plan to get Sonia-San to go out with him?”  Hajime raised his right eyebrow anticipating your answer, his eyes lowered in pity.  You nodded in accordance while making a, “Mmmhhhmm” noise.  “Did he tell you about it?”  You were almost certain his answer would be yes.  “He tried to get everyone to play along; we all said no.  Why are you doing this for him?”  Hajime looked down at you with sympathy in his eyes, he could tell you didn’t want to be in your current predicament.  “Because I can’t say no to him,” you groaned and let out an aggravated sigh.  Hajime shrugged his shoulders, “Well, good luck,” he waved you ado and went on his way.

Although Hajime is an ideal person to waste time with, you could really do without any more distractions; you just wanted to get Sonia up to the restaurant and leave so she and Kazuichi could smooch and talk about how much they adored each other (or that was just what you thought Kazuichi was thinking).  For some peculiar reason, this made you furious.  You found yourself not only irked by Sonia, but actually hating her now.  It wasn’t like you had a crush on Kazuichi; he was an idiotic obsessive fool who smelled like oil all the time.  Him with his dyed pink hair, and his pointy shark-like teeth, and those hypnotizing pastel pink eyes that sent you into a tizzy.  You made a loud guttural growling sound which captured the attention of someone else passing by.

“Hey, (Y/N)-San.”  The cheerful voice of hope rang out joyfully, “Why are you just standing here, that’s not something someone with such a wonderful talent should do.”  “What do you want Nagito-San?”  You interrogated impatiently, tapping your foot awaiting a proper answer.  “I came to get something to eat,” he answered as if there was no exasperation in your voice whatsoever.  “You better wait, Kazuichi-Kun is planning to do something up there for Sonia and I really don’t want him to yell at me because I,” you dropped your voice and, once again, imitated Kazuichi, “Didn’t pay attention when I was specifically told only to let Sonia come up.”  You finished your impression of Kazuichi causing Komeda to put his fingers beneath his chin in a thinking position.  “Well, are you jealous?”  Komeda grinned and giggled, “It would be a shame if a flame of a hope like you went out because of some silly love affair; although it would be wonderful if I could see two hopes together joined as one.  He cocked his head ever so slightly to the right and watched you curiously.  “I don’t love him or anything like that, jeez.”  You threw your hands up into the air and shook you head solemnly; why did this question keep coming up today.  No, you didn’t like Kazuichi; that’s it.  “I think you’re jealous.  If you really want to make an impression on him, go tell him how you feel,” Komeda suggested as you gave him a death glare.  “I’m not in love with him,” you restated with a large amount of tension in your voice.  “Why don’t I go; I can see I’m not wanted here.”  Komeda proposed causing you to simply nod you head in agreement, you wouldn’t even look at him.

Once Komeda was gone you had gone back to speaking to yourself about how much you loathed Kazuichi.  “Okay, so I don’t loath him,” you muttered to yourself, “I just don’t like him.”  You had grown tired of arguing with yourself and decided to stay quiet.

About an hour later, you were still standing in the exact same position you were in when Komeda left.  Why was Sonia taking so long?  Who were you kidding?  You knew she wasn’t going to come.  You knew Kazuichi would be crushed if she didn’t come; you decided it would be best if you went to check on him.  You trudged up the wooden stairs that made creaking noises beneath your feet.  You could hear Kazuichi let out a small squeal of excitement for he thought it was Sonia that was coming up.  Oh, you were going to break his heart; just the thought of doing so made you want cry.  Why would it make you want to cry though?  You paused on one of the steps, putting all your weight on it.  Whatever, you thought again, there’s no point in worrying about it now.  “Kazuichi-Kun?”  You called out into the air before you could reach the top step.

There was total silence.  “Kazuichi-Kun?”  You inquired a bit more urgently.  “Oh, it’s you (Y/N)-Chan.”  He sounded dejected.  The aroma of delicious food filled your nostrils causing you to droll and lick your lips; a sweet smell and something of a savory smell, it had to be Teruteru’s cooking.  You finished climbing the stairs and peered around the corner; Kazuichi was sitting there, in suit and tie, on one of the restaurant chairs.  He had covered the table in a clean pure white sheet and placed several dozen flowers into a tiny vase that was overflowing with water causing the flowers to fall out.  The room was dark, the only thing that lit the way were two lit candles in the middle of the table.  He had set up a whole dinner date for he and Sonia.

“Hey, (Y/N)-Chan.”  He kept his head down watching the flowers wilt, they had been in that vase for quite a long time and the water had yet to be changed.  “Kazuichi-Kun are you-“ You asked concerned before he interrupted you.  “She’s not coming, is she?  I kind of knew this would happen.”  He sighed melancholically and finally looked up at you, his eyes watering.  In that moment your heart began to ache; you never knew he could be so emotionally attached to anyone.  “No, that’s not true,” you argued, clenching your hands into fists in an attempt not to cry, “She’s just running a little late!”  You enthusiastically reassured him.  He shook his head heavily, “I think I’ll go back to my cottage now; sorry for making you do this (Y/N)-Chan,” he apologized and let out a depressed grunt.

You had to do something; you couldn’t bear to see him like this.  “Wait Kazuichi-Kun!”  He turned around trying to hid the fact that he had been sobbing.  “Well, I’ll have dinner with you,” you suggested, “I mean as friends,” you pouted your lips and emphasized the word friends.  Kazuichi shrugged than sat back down in a slouched lazy comfortable position, “Sure, whatever.”

The two of you sat in silence while you ate and he picked around his food in a grim manor.  “So,” you desperately wanted to break the uncomfortable silence, “You did all this yourself?”  He didn’t even have the emotional stability to dignify an answer, he just nodded.  “That’s nice,” you trailed off with nothing more to say.  “I know you want to go back to your cottage (Y/N)-Chan, you don’t have to pity me,” he had grown self-conscious and wanted to leave the situation as soon as possible.  “No!”  You instructed him to sit down once more causing him to throw his hands up in annoyance.  “Then what do you want from me?  I know you’re doing this because you feel bad for me.”

You turned your head away trying to hid your magenta cheeks.  “Cause,” you replied defensively.  “Whatever,” he sighed and turned to leave.  “No, don’t go,” you pouted again as tears welled up in your eyes.  “W-wait, why are you crying?”  He looked around the room and yanked a cloth napkin off the table and forced it into your hand, “What did I do wrong?  I don’t like seeing girls cry!”  He exclaimed.  You turned away, “I love you,” you uttered under your breath.  “You what?  I couldn’t hear you.”  He leaned in closer to you.  “I love you,” you shrieked at the top of your lungs.

Kazuichi watched you cry for a moment, his eyes told you he was in disbelief.  There was no way he would accept your love invitation after the way you treated him.  After all the times you yelled at him, or called him and idiot, he would never love a snotty girl like that.  “I-Is that so?”  He looked away, quite embarrassed, for a moment then turned his back to you, “You know, I was planning on dancing with Sonia after dinner, so, I guess I’m asking if you want to dance.  He turned his head back to you investigating your face as it lit up.  “I’d love to dance Kazuichi-Kun,” the tears had disappeared from your eyes.

He turned on an old radio then turned back to you, opening his arms, “I’ve been practicing a bit, but, I’m still not very good so, don’t get mad at me if I step on your feet,” he paused frequently until he finished his sentence then laughed nervously.  You slowly walked over to him and gently set your hands upon his broad shoulders, he then painfully sloth-like moved his hands to your waist.  The two of you began to slowly sway in each other arms.

When the dancing (if you could call it dancing, for the two of you were so bashful that it was more like a hug that dragged on for too long.)  ended the two of you stay in each other’s arms, neither one of you dare let go.  His skin illuminated in the pale moon light.  He pulled you closer.  You picked up the smell of aftershave and a sweet cologne on him.  He pulled you closer.  Your heart raced faster than it had ever done so before.  He pulled you closer.  You waited for the moment your lips would impact.

Closer.  Closer.  Even closer.  You felt his breath against your cheek.  Finally, the moment you had been waiting for; Kazuichi as finally pulled you close enough to give him a (although small) sweet kiss.  “I love you too, (Y/N)-Chan,” his eyes sparkled, he was telling the truth.  “I was so into Sonia that I forgot you were here.”  You blushed madly, your cheeks were red like a cherry, causing him to laugh uncontrollably and you to blush even more.  He pulled you in for a second kiss when the two of you heard a clicking noise.  The both of you looked around, yet not leaving each other arms, but eventually shrugging it off.

Under your feet, on the stairs, stood a small group of people trying to control their laughter and awws.  “Mahiru-Chan did you get the shot?”  Came a whisper that belonged to a female.  “I did Sonia-Chan” came another girls whisper.  The soft giggles of girls echoed across the beach.  “Operation: Mechanic x Tsundere is a success," came the whisper.  "You did a good thing Sonia-Chan."  "I know," the owner of the voice beamed and pointed back at the two of you, "Take more pictures."
I actually love this piece, it's so cute.  I love Kazuichi Souda and got the idea for this story when listening to the song Girlfriend.  I hope you enjoy this as much as I enjoyed writing it.
